Urban Fringes
Student's lectures at Kunsthalle Exnergasse
The event Urban Fringes by Social Design students took place in the context of the exhibition Kunsthalle Exnergasse (KEX) | RAND. The fall program 2020 focussed on Vienna's urban periphery, district planning and urban-rural economy.
Social design students opened up a wide-ranging panorama of urban fringes and the reciprocal perceptions of rural and urban dwellers along these fringes. Diverging romantizations, changing prejudices, old and new escape movements in one direction or the other, different planning concepts and questions of supply were addressed as well as questions as to whether visions of urban survival have not long since been oriented towards the fringes?
